Personnel

 The ZenRobotics team packs strong experience and a proven track record, both in business and the academia. 

This is also attested by the fact that 50 % of the staff of 20 hold a doctorate. The personnel are relatively young, the average ZenRoboteer being 33 years of age. 

 

Rainer Rehn, Chief Executive Officer. Rehn is a serial entrepreneur in the field of clean technology. The developer and the driving force in no less than eight companies, including Weima Finland (now XO Group Ltd). Prior to ZenRobotics, Rehn worked as VP of Sales at BMH Enviro Ltd. Rehn leads ZenRobotics's commercialization effort in Finland and abroad.

 

Harri Valpola, Founder, CTO, Academy of Finland Research Fellow, PhD in machine learning from the Helsinki University of Technology. Previous experience includes working as a researcher at the internationally acclaimed University of Zurich AI Lab, and in two Academy of Finland's Centres of Excellence. Valpola is experienced in neurobiology, machine learning, and robotics. Valpola directs the R&D activities of ZenRobotics.

Tuomas J. Lukka, Founder, Chief Scientist, PhD in quantum chemistry at the age of 20 from the University of Helsinki. Consequently worked in the USA, having received the respected Harvard Junior Fellowship. Lukka has led a research group at the University of Jyväskylä, and commercialized high technology at Hybrid Graphics Ltd.

Jufo Peltomaa, Founder, VP of Marketing. Previously a successful marketing professional with a number of international awards under his black belt, Peltomaa is a serial entrepreneur who has founded multiple successful companies, including Hybrid Graphics Ltd, later acquired by NVIDIA.

Mika Raento, VP of R&D, PhD in machine learning from the University of Helsinki. Founder of Jaiku Ltd, subsequently acquired by Google Inc. Raento worked at Google as the lead developer of Google Latitude, and at ZenRobotics he is responsible for the managerial aspects of R&D work.

Maciej Borkowski, R&D Manager, HW, PhD in electronics from the University of Oulu. Borkowski's past is in demanding R&D of electronics in both the academia and the industry, in Poland and Finland, and he also acts as IEEE Finland's Section Vice Chair. At ZenRobotics, Borkowski is tasked with electronics and mechanics R&D, and manages the subcontracting partners.

Jouni Seppänen, Principal Developer, PhD in machine learning from the Helsinki University of Technology. Seppänen has worked e.g. at Xtract Ltd applying machine learning methodology in customer data analysis. For several years, Seppänen has been responsible for coaching the International Mathematical Olympiad team of Finland. At ZenRobotics, Seppänen specializes in demanding R&D work.

Lasse Rasinen, Senior R&D Engineer, MSc(Eng) in machine learning from the Helsinki University of Technology. Rasinen has worked in a number of Finnish software companies, including HiQ Softplan Ltd and Xtract Ltd, in software subcontracting for Finnish consumer electronics companies. At ZenRobotics, Rasinen works in demanding R&D work.

Joel Kaasinen, Senior R&D Engineer, BSc at 19 from the University of Helsinki, currently finalizing his MSc. Kaasinen has won numerous prizes in both national and international mathematics, physics, and programming competitions. At ZenRobotics he works in demanding R&D.

Alexey Vyskubov, Senior R&D Engineer, MSc at 21 from St. Petersburg State University, Russia. Vyskubov packs an impressive decade of embedded software experience, including 3 years as head of Core SW group of what became MeeGo, let alone having worked as the editor in chief of the Russian Byte magazine. At ZenRobotics he, naturally, cracks exceptionally hard R&D.

Tapani Raiko, Senior Researcher, PhD in machine learning from the Helsinki University of Technology. Raiko has years of experience in analyzing complex data and in neural control. At ZenRobotics, Raiko solves long-term research problems and exceptionally hard analysis and control problems for R&D.

Alexander Ilin, Senior Researcher, PhD in machine learning from the Helsinki University of Technology. Ilin has worked years analysing complex data sets. He solves long-term research problems in demanding R&D data analysis.

María Isabel Cordero Marcos,  Junior Researcher, a student of robotics and mathematics at the Technical University of Catalonia, currently finalizing her MSc under Valpola. Marcos has excelled in a number of national and international mathematics competitions. At ZenRobotics, Cordero Marcos works in research.
